About

I'm Julien. I studied product management at CODE University of Applied Sciences in Berlin, but I wouldn't call myself a product manager. I like working in product-adjacent areas: customer success, GTM, design, and enough code to be considered dangerous. Most recently I built up customer success at Augustus, a global dollar bank. Before that, I helped define a cross-functional role at Langdock spanning CS, product, and sales.

I like to solve problems, or at least try to.

How I think about projects

In the end, we always need to understand why we want to change something and what the bigger vision behind it is.

At Augustus, we knew the problem: we didn't want to hire more people just to scale our operations. So that was the problem to solve. We looked at different ways to get there and quickly found that AI could come in handy.

We started building something internally, partly because it was a fun project. In the end, we killed that initiative and bought a tool instead.

Building it ourselves was fun, but in a semi-technical team it meant maintaining the product both technically and contextually. By buying, we lost a bit of control, but more people could focus on the original problem, because less technical colleagues could jump on board.

Beyond work

I played in a band with my best friends for close to ten years. Music is still a big part of how and when I think. I geek out about production, try to go to concerts when I can, and always have something playing.

I like learning things for the sake of it. A technical rabbit hole, a new word in another language, a better way to cook something.

I'm into design, both the digital kind and the kind you live in.

I ride a lovely Kreissäge from Standert, and I'll say yes to any bike ride or team sport.
